Single-room split systems
One outdoor unit connected to one indoor unit. Suited to a bedroom, office, shop or server cupboard.
Multi-room systems
One outdoor unit serving several indoor units, so each room can be controlled separately.
Heating and cooling
Most modern split systems are reversible heat pumps. They move heat rather than generate it, so they can deliver more heat energy than the electricity they use.
Why F-gas matters
Split systems use fluorinated refrigerant gases (F-gases), which are potent greenhouse gases. In the UK, handling them during installation requires F-gas certification, and leaks must be prevented.
Correct pipework, pressure testing and evacuation of the lines before the system is charged protect efficiency, reliability and the environment.
